If not, it could be severely harming your company's online presence. In 2019, over 58% of all online searches come from mobile devices, according to a report by Statista.
Having a mobile responsive website is critical to achieving success online. In a connected world, your customers will most likely discover you online. If your site fails to deliver an excellent user experience on a mobile device, you might be losing customers, or not reaching the ones you want.
Here's 5 reasons why mobile responsiveness is important in 2019.
With the rapid increase in mobile usage, users are demanding dramatically better mobile experiences. Desktop sites are frustrating to navigate on a smartphone, and if your website delivers an experience where visitors have to zoom in and scroll around to press a tiny button or link to another page, chances are that they'll leave and head somewhere else instead.
Did you know that Google favors mobile responsive sites in search results and tends to ignore or even negatively impact sites without a mobile-responsive version? Google's search algorithm can detect sites that are able to adapt their content based on mobile sizes, and it will prioritize those sites over sites without responsive design. Your visibility in Google could be severely impacted if your site isn't designed with mobile responsiveness in mind, and this has an extremely adverse impact on the number of customers visiting your site.
Immediately after your site loads, the customer begins to make judgements of your site and associates them with their mental image of your business. If your site loads slowly with a classic, non-responsive design that hasn't been updated, what do you think that customer believes about your business, compared to a mobile responsive design that's always on the cutting edge? Which one would you choose to do business with?
According to data published by Google, over 60% of users will leave your site if it's difficult to navigate. On the flipside, if the user has a positive experience on your site, they'll be over 65% more likely to convert into an actual customer. Since there's no need to redirect users to a separate version of the site or load desktop-sized assets, the load time on the site decreases dramatically. Plus, there's no need for the user to work harder, like extra scrolling or zooming in. Because of these two key elements of mobile responsiveness, users of the site are much happier–and for you–more likely to convert. As an additional statistic, Google states that 74% of users who visited a mobile-friendly site are more likely to return in the future.
For companies big on reputation, having a non mobile responsive website can hurt your company's reputation. According to a Google survey, 48% of website users stated that if a site didn’t work well on their smartphones, it made them feel like the company didn’t care about their business. Additionally, 52% of respondents said that having a bad mobile experience with a company's website made them less likely to convert or engage with the company. Ouch!
